When it comes to safety, there’s no room for compromise. Gerda is a leading brand in the fire safety and security products industry, and we offer several high-quality fire door sets that are designed to provide your building with superior protection, and your residents with a superior level of comfort.
The Parts of a Fire Door Set
A fire door set is a system – a comprehensive system designed with interdependent parts, each performing its own critical function as part of the whole. It should be noted however that while we’ll be talking about three different elements here today, Gerda fire door sets can only ever be bought as complete units of door and frame – we do not sell doors or frames separately under any circumstances.
Door Leaf
The door leaf, and how this is designed to work with the rest of the doorset, is crucial in preventing the spread of fire.
Frame
The frame is designed to hold the door leaf securely. It is also designed and built to be fire-resistant, and prevent the spread of fire and smoke with a high degree of efficacy.
Other Elements
Here we’re talking about things like door handles, letterboxes, and windows in the door itself. When you choose Gerda, even these elements will be designed to work alongside the door leaf and frame, and continue to provide superior performance.
The Different Types of Gerda Fire Door Sets
Gerda offers a variety of fire door sets to cater to different needs.
Fire Door Sets For Residential Use
Designed for use as flat or apartment entrances in residential buildings, these doors offer enhanced fire safety without sacrificing aesthetics.
Fire Door Sets For Communal Areas
These doors are designed to withstand heavy usage as is typically seen in a residential building’s communal areas, while also offering maximum fire safety.
Fire Door Sets For Outdoor Use
Some Gerda door sets are designed for deployment as exterior doors, built to stand up to additional issues such as security threats and unauthorised access, and insulate against heat loss, noise pollution and the elements in general – all without compromising on fire safety.
Testing and Certification of Gerda Fire Door Sets
Gerda door sets undergo rigorous testing at UKAS accredited test houses to ensure that they provide the levels of protection that both you, and we expect. We always test our doors and frames together as a combined door set unit, where applicable we always test every possible combination of door and frame, and we always test both the front and back sides of a door set. Lastly, we’re also very proud to share that we own all of our primary test evidence, and that in the testing procedures that they undergo, our door sets regularly outperform the requirements set for them.
Fire Resistance Testing
Gerda single- and double-door sets are typically tested for fire resistance against two standards – BS 476-22 and EN 1634-1 – and in these tests both thirty- and sixty-minute fire resistance performance is assessed.
Smoke Control Testing
Gerda Security Products typically uses EN 1634-3 as the standard against which we test our door sets for smoke control, which when used in combination with the two fire resistance standards mentioned above, makes for a comprehensive benchmarking process against fire and smoke.
Installation and Maintenance of Gerda Door Sets
Proper installation and maintenance are crucial to the effectiveness of our door sets, and for that reason we offer professional installation and maintenance services, carried out only by fully-qualified Gerda engineers and partners, dedicated to the proper fitting and upkeep of our security products.
Other Gerda Security Products
In addition to fire door sets, Gerda offers a wide range of security products, designed to keep buildings and their residents safe, and/or facilitate access and rescue operations by the Emergency Services. Examples of these other products include the Premises Information Box (or ‘PIB’), as well as our access control protection products.
Conclusion
Choosing Gerda fire door sets ensures unmatched security for the buildings that they are deployed in, and the residents living in those buildings. With their high-quality materials, rigorous testing, and commitment to safety, when it comes to protection against fire, you can trust Gerda – and we truly believe that our door sets are the very best available today.
