Gerda Keys – Keep them safe, they’re registered for a reason!
Gerda make sure that every key issued is registered, in order to restrict access but allow the Fire & Rescue Service entry in an emergency… Giving your key away allows access for anyone.
It seems obvious, but you wouldn’t simply leave your car/home keys in the door lock, or hand out copies to anyone that might (for whatever reason…) want to get in. Especially as most insurance policies will not pay out unless there is evidence of forced entry, even if you’ve just given them to a ‘friend’, as according to the ONS Crime Survey 43% of burglars know the victim.
At Gerda Security Products we tightly control the availability of our keys, with replacements only available through us. We have a strict key registration procedure in place, meaning that keys are only distributed once we have verified the supply request. With all our registered key holders listed on a centralised database of the duty holder, or responsible person, under the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order.
Through this process, our unique high performance, high security locking system assists in reducing antisocial behaviour and minimizing property damage whilst maintaining operational access for firefighters in the event of an incident. Helpfully restricting unauthorised access through the H System® and preventing unlawful parking or vehicle dumping with the Barrier Gate Lock System®.
This level of security can mean that some criminal elements are keen to get hold of a Gerda key, assuming that with the GSP One-Key® Locking System they have access to multiple premises, but rest assured any customer key is only usable with its associated lock. Also, it’s unlawful for a locksmith to copy a Gerda key as it’s trademark and patent protected, plus is not permitted to be resold by the registered user.
All of which means, just like your car and home keys, Gerda keys need to be looked after as you wouldn’t want them falling into the wrong hands. The damage caused by unlawful entry to secure areas can not only be costly and time-consuming to resolve but could potentially affect the outcome of a fire fighting incident.
