Barking Abbey School

A new, two-storey classroom block and sixth form centre have been added to Barking Abbey school in Dagenham.

The development prioritizes natural ventilation and has attained a BREEAM rating of ‘Very Good’. Energy efficiency and fire safety were paramount concerns, leading contractor Neillcott Construction to select a key supplier.

Over 100 ready-to-hang door sets, including FD30 and FD60 options with 35 dB acoustic performance, were provided over a 40-week phased program.

The rollout programme for the Secure Premises Information Box™ (PIB)® System was led by the University Fire Safety Manager. Not only for the University but also particularly for Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service.

“This has been about developing partnerships – using a recognised system to safeguard our own interests and also provide access to essential information to enhance firefighter safety and, if necessary, expedite the conduct of operations. These aspects are important to us and we will continue to audit, develop and improve these arrangements to the benefit of everyone who needs to resort to our buildings.”

It is estimated that 80% of businesses affected by a major incident close within 18 months and the loss of important assets may take years to replace if at all. This being the case the implementation of the PIB system as part of the University of Cambridge’s fire safety and prevention policy can only be a wise step and raises the fire prevention remit to a whole new level.

Enfield Speciality Doors worked with Morgan Sindall on numerous projects prior to being asked to be involved in the supply of fire doors for a prestigious New Build. This greenfield site design for the Arts University Bournemouth featured student accommodation.

The project included 297 student bedrooms over 11 blocks. We supplied circa 1000 fire doors for the project.

Special features include a beautiful, yet hard-wearing Maple veneer crown cut finish.

Designed to provided 30 minutes fire resistance and 29dB acoustics to reduce sound transmission, the doors offer a robust solution for student accommodation.
