Fire resilience and Smoke control

Fire resilience and Smoke control

The built environment is not uniform and buildings vary in age from Victorian to 50s, 60s and 70s high storey buildings. Having a range of manufacturer-owned primary fire tests and smoke control tests means solutions to accommodate the variations that can and do occur.

The Contemporary doorset range comprises 11 successful primary fire resistance tests to BS EN 1634-1 for fire resistance, exceeding the requisite time of thirty minutes in all tests. And 6 full scale smoke leakage tests to BS EN 1634-3, as well as further tests not having the letterplate and the threshold taped, to replicate real conditions.

Effective smoke leakage prevention through good design is key.

We endeavour to demonstrate this important aspect of fire safety through our smoke pod demonstrations and live smoke tests in actual empty high rise buildings.

Peace of Mind

Feeling safe at home also means feeling secure.

Our Contemporary doorsets are Secured by Design as standard. This means that they offer dual certification for fire resistance and enhanced security.

Tested to the exacting standard PAS 24 any new Secured by Design security requirements are introduced as part of the certification and audit testing.

As part of this our doorsets incorporate TS008 letter boxes and TS007 cylinders with secure handlesets to prevent against breaching of 1 star or 3 star europrofile cylinders.

In actual attempted break-ins the doorsets have proven their credentials, with an excellent success rate against unauthorised entry.

Flat Entrance doorsets come under Fire Safety (England) 2022 regulation 10.

It a legal requirement from 23 January 2023 for responsible persons of multi-occupied residential buildings in England, with 11m high storeys, to undertake annual checks of flat entrance doors.

This includes self-closing devices leading onto a building’s common parts.

To assist with this, each of our Contemporary Doorsets is fitted with the digital life-cycle management App,
G-SmartĀ®.

Based on each unique doorset code, G-smart tracks the doorset history from survey, through to manufacturing and onto installation, maintenance and fault-reporting plus the ordering of correct spare parts.

Design & Sustainability

Design & Sustainability

The Contemporary doorset comprises timber/mineral wool internal leaf encased in a 44 mm galvanised steel surround. Designed for stability and to prevent bowing, the Contemporary Doorset offers a robust and sustainable solution over door types which are heavily reliant on fibre with resins.

This insulated steel doorset is a superior choice for high traffic environments offering longevity through innovative engineering. The finish offers good protection against scratching, whilst easy to keep clean.

The exterior foil coating has undergone temperature cycling in a recursive thermal test at the British Board of Agrement. This environmental stress test establishes product reliability. Sustainability is a key consideration of the design, with stone mineral wool being a natural furnace product of molten rock. Stone wool can be recycled several times.
